Warmth and Light: a thank you to a kind Donor

Lal

Humla, in the remote Himalayan region of Nepal, has no motor roads and no access to electricity. Life is especially difficult for children who are orphaned or living in poverty, with no light at home to study by.

Eighteen-year-old Lal knows this struggle well. A grade-10 student from a local village, Lal used to rely on burning pinewood (known locally as Sella) to prepare for schoolwork after dark. The dim glow and heavy smoke made studying uncomfortable and exhausting. That changed when Lal received a solar lamp, passed to them by Good Neighbors from a generous private donor:

“I am very happy to receive the solar lamp […] Now, I don’t have to sit in smoke from burning pine wood while studying. This lamp has made it much easier and more comfortable to prepare for my exams, especially the upcoming SEE [secondary education exams] next year. This may seem like a small thing to others, but for me, it is a valuable gift. I sincerely thank Good Neighbors for supporting me.” –
Lal, 18
Student from Humla

Lal is one of a small group of children who received solar lamps and warm jackets thanks to a private donor’s generosity. Though modest in number (two large and six small solar lamps, and nine jackets) the impact has been profound. Children are now able to study safely into the night, and families are protected from the Himalayan cold.

Good Neighbours UK would like to sincerely thank this donor for proving that even a small contribution can make a big difference. This gift supports our mission to advance inclusive education and sustainable development in vulnerable communities.

Every contribution counts. Consider making yours today.
