Take a closer look at how our project is making a difference to the community of Hamdallaye.
Every mother deserves a safe birth, just as every child deserves a healthy start to life. Yet in Niger, the joy of childbirth is often overshadowed by life-threatening epidemics of tuberculosis, AIDS, and malaria. We are working in collaboration with Good Neighbours Niger to ‘Improve the Health of Mothers, Newborns and Children in Niger’. Our project includes expanding the IHC maternity ward in Hamdallaye and training additional staff and voluntary mothers. This video offers behind-the-scenes insights into our ongoing work.
We spoke to Nadia Garba Saley, Program Assistant Officer at Good Neighbours Niger: “the implementation of this project will undoubtedly lead to a reduction in maternal and infant morbidity rates” thanks to the improved access to quality healthcare. Aissa Sadou is a matron at the health center who promotes hospital deliveries and raises awareness about the dangers of giving birth at home. She shared that the new ward is attracting new mothers who are looking forward to giving birth at the facility.
Seeing the ward constructed and the community already means everything to us, and we thank our partner, GN Niger, and the hard working staff: builders, matrons, nurses and program officers, who made this possible, and especially to the Guernsey Overseas Aid & Development Commission for their generous support, which made this project a reality for the families of Hamdallaye.
“This project is not only a step forward for the Hamdallaye community, it is a step toward a world where everyone’s health becomes a shared priority”
