In Ghana’s Akatsi North District, too many girls see their education cut short by early pregnancy, often driven by poverty, gaps in health knowledge, and pressure that adolescents face alone.

Working with Good Neighbors Ghana, we set up “Good Sisters” and “Good Brothers” clubs in local schools: safe spaces where young people learn about sexual and reproductive health, build confidence, and gain vocational skills so girls aren’t financially dependent on others. Alongside the clubs, we distribute dignity kits and work with parents and communities to shift the attitudes that put girls at risk.

Independent research by the University of Manchester found the programme is working: club members are now choosing to delay parenthood, and far more young people understand family planning than before. It’s early, but the direction is clear — and the community wants more of it.
