A research paper on the performance of the Saemaul Zero Hunger Community (SZHC) project to improve food security, income generation, education and infrastructure has been published in journal 124 of world renowned World Development journal.

Good Neighbours Tanzania and Good Neighbours Bangladesh worked alongside Good Neighbours Korea and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to run the project.

The project ran from 2014 to 2018 in selected local communities in Tanzania and Bangladesh.

It targeted the most vulnerable communities to improve their livelihood and rural development programmes through community-based activities.

To collect information and data for evaluation, Good Neighbours conducted field research in the form of in-depth interviews, focus group discussions and household surveys in the targeted villages.

It shows that the SZHC project significantly improved the livelihoods of beneficiaries in relation to zero hunger, and also increased income generation and promoted positive social changes.

The project has also helped to strengthen the capacity of communities to run development projects themselves.

The study provides evidence-based analysis that allows stakeholders and researchers to be more fully engaged with future community-based projects.
