The York based UK Headquarters of humanitarian aid group Good Neighbours International has welcomed the boost given to the organisation by South Korean Tottenham Hotspur FC star, Heung-min Son.

Tottenham forward Heung-min Son has donated 100 million Korean Won (about £65,000) to the organisation’s Covid-19 virus work in Korea, and raised the profile of the work it does throughout the world.

Early on in the pandemic South Korea was one of the worst hit countries outside mainland China, where the outbreak is thought to have started. Since, the country has been widely praised for its reaction to the virus which was one of the largest and best-organised in the world. In its efforts to fight and contain the virus, South Korea has combined testing with contact tracing.

The footballer had to spend 14 days in self-isolation at home in London after returning from the South Korean capital Seoul, where he went for surgery on a fractured arm.

In a post on Instagram by Good Neighbours, the Spurs forward said:

“Even though it is far away [from me], as we face increased corona damage, I wanted to ensure Covid-19 no longer spreads, and to the vulnerable, I hope it will help you a bit.”

Good Neighbours said Son’s donation would be used to prevent further infections.
