Join us at the York International Women’s Week!

We are delighted to announce we will be joining York’s International Women’s Week (YIWW) which kicks off on March 5th with our Good Neighbours Garden Photo Exhibition on the theme of Girls Can Do Everything!

Our Good Neighbours Garden located at the heart of York, will feature a photo exhibition designed to raises awareness of girls’ and women’s struggles around the world and how they overcome them with adequate support. We believe menstruation should never impede girls’ and women’s success in school and in their communities. We encourage visitors to leave their comments and thoughts on the bulletin board in the hallway. The exhibition will be held for a week, beginning Saturday 5th – Sunday 13th March between 09:00-15:00 every day at 20 Castlegate, York YO1 9RP.As an extra treat, we’ll have an additional one-off garden event on Friday 11th March at 7pm, featuring live music from female performers and songwriters in aid of ‘Girls can do everything’. Make sure you make it to our Good Neighbours Live: Women in Music night by booking your place here. There is limited venue capacity so please book early!

On Wednesday 9th March we will also be holding a free Zoom webinar between 10:00-11:00 titled When Girls Can Do Everything: Stories from Uganda and Kyrgyzstan. The webinar will introduce attendees to speakers from our field countries, Uganda and Kyrgyzstan, who will share their experience and insights and give an overview of how we help women and girls continue their education and overcome period poverty. Join us via Eventbrite.

As a York-based aid charity with a local and global outlook, our focus on education is central to enabling long-term empowerment of those most vulnerable, in particular women and children using a Community Development Approach.

YIWW which is organised by women in York, UK, aims to celebrate women’s historical breakthroughs and also to shed light on women’s ongoing struggle to achieve global gender justice and equality in a world that has still a long way until women’s experiences, dreams, ambitions are fully acknowledged and realised.
